5 Holiday Gifts for Weirdos

With Black Friday looming over the holiday season like Krampus holding a stick, I thought it the right time of year to suggest you buy things from me.

  1. Books for Adults

I’m a writer first, so I’m putting my books up front and helping you match them to people on your holiday list.

IndieBound,    Amazon,   Barnes & Noble, People’s Book (Takoma Park)

“Stealing ‘The Scream’” is a quirky literary comedic crime novel about art theft. It’s my most mainstream book and something you could get for your aunt who likes to read. You could safely make it a book club choice too, and then all talk about the relationship between art and the artist. You can read a review here.

Frida Sex Dreams is strange, and there’s a lot of sex in it. I think it’s my best work, but it may not be suitable for your aunt’s book club. Broken Pencil magazine wrote “ A mix of magic realism and Freudian nightmare, Carter’s wild imagination gifts us a winged woman yearning for freedom (and sex); a marriage torn apart by Frida Kahlo fantasies; and let’s not forget the alien horny for President Jimmy Carter.” This book will hit well with those ready for it, but it’s not for everyone.

IndieBound,   Amazon,   Barnes & Noble, People’s Book

The Life Story of a Chilean Sea Blob is more whimsical than the other two, and it has a lighter humor to it. Still weird, but in a playful way. The first story in it, Jesus Lizard, is the story readers bring up with me more than anything else I’ve written. I think this book is a good fit for teenagers and adults in their twenties.

  1. Limited Edition Hand-Printed Linocuts

What could be more seasonal than a limited edition print of an eyeball snowman? These signed 11″x14″ prints are packed and ready to go and pair nicely with a cheap stock frame. Please order in advance because the post office at this time of year is more frightening than anything depicted below. If you’re near D.C., we can work it out up until the last minute!

  1. Sexy Alien Watercolor Prints

I created a series of paintings called “Madam President, Extraterrestrial.” I previewed this in my library post. There’s a to-be-revealed storyline that goes with them too. I’ve uploaded them to this print-on-demand site. See the entire set here.

  1. T-shirts and Wearable Merch

Wearable creations based off of my books, art, and podcasts can be found here. My current favorite is the t-shirt featuring the Sam Patch quote, “Some things can be done as well as others.” Confuse your friends and family.

  1. Zacharia for the Kids

I wrote this book for kids because I thought the middle-grade books available for my second- and third-grade students weren’t great. I wanted to share with them my love for Frida Kahlo, but I knew I’d have to speed it up a bit with some fart jokes. The result is “Zacharia: School Monkey.” I read it to my students every year without disclosing the author until the end because I want their honest reaction. They actually love it. This is also my only self-published book, and because I own the design, I made merch too.

If you’ve read to this point and didn’t find something you like, want something for free, or want a book recommendation outside of what I’ve written, email me and I’ll see what I can do. I want anyone interested in engaging with my content to be able to do so.
